Keeping Active

Being active has physical benefits and helps with mental health. Our perseverance challenge encouraged the children to get active and to recognise their own personal achievements. There are lots of ways to keep active - going for a walk or bikeride, dancing to a favourite song, skipping or playing games in the garden like football or hopscotch. You could also try some of these other ways of keeping active.

Learning

Find a routine which works for you and try to avoid comparing what your family are doing with what others are doing. Don't underestimate the learning which goes on during family time - playing games, making lunch, baking or completing a jigsaw are just some of the valuable experiences that help children to grow.

Staying Connected

Write a letter, send a postcard, write an email or phone a friend. There are lots of ways to keep connected. Our school project involved the children drawing pictures of themselves to make a friendship chain on our school railings. They loved spotting pictures of their friends. Staying connected helps to develop a sense of belonging and provides emotional support. Technology can play a part in this but with restrictions in place.

Helping Others

Acts of giving and kindness support wellbeing by developing positive feelings and a sense of achievement and self-worth. They can be as simple as helping with jobs around the house to saying thank you to someone for something they have done. Our school project involved making flowers to give to another person to show them that someone cares. The children enjoyed this giving activity and some of them even recieved flowers from a friend too. A group of the children in school have also written the residents in Barrow Hall and have had letters thanking them in return.
